Accumulator: A pressure vessel in a hydraulic system in which hydraulic fluid is stored under nitrogen gas pressure, serving as a rapid source of hydraulic power when needed (fast shot, die close and core operations). Newer systems typically use piston type accumulators which separates the nitrogen gas charge from the hydraulic fluid via a metal piston with seals.
Auto Ladle:  A dedicated piece of electro-mechanical automation used to transfer metal from the machine furnace to the die cast machine, used on a cold chamber die casting machine. When a decision is made to change from manual die cast production to semi-automatic or fully automated, the ladle is usually the first piece of automation installed.
Automatic Operation:  The ability to run the die cast machine uninterrupted and without the need for a machine operator.
Automatic Tie Bar Puller:  An automatic method of unlocking the front nut on a tie bar, releasing the rear die height nut and using a hydraulic cylinder to pull the tie bar back to assist and speed the process of removing and installing dies. Some people refer to this same feature as "tie bar drawing" or "tie bar take-out".

Biscuit:  Part of the metal poured into the shot sleeve, round in shape left in the shot sleeve, connected to the runners and next to the plunger at the end of the shot cylinder stroke on a cold chamber die cast machine.

Captive:  Word used to describe a die casting operation in which the shop produces casting for its own use on a finished product. Some of these shops are also "Custom" die casters.
Cavities, Multiple: Any single die which has more than one cavity to produce multiple parts per machine cycle.
Cavity: The area in the die in which the casting is formed, the shape of the cavity is nearly the same as the part.
